Brood X Cicadas 2024. In the u.s., there are at least 15 separate cycles, or broods, of periodic cicadas. Billions of cicadas are set to surface this spring as two different broods — one that appears every 13 years, and another every 17 years — emerge simultaneously.
After 17 years underground, crowds of brood x cicadas in the eastern united states dug their way up to daylight, took adult form and flirted in loud crowds. Alabama has annual cicadas, but this year the locals will have help from a few billion − yes that’s billion with a b − of their friends.
